Introduction
to songwriting
start with something you want to say — 3 live classes + a track review & Q&A with Misha Hayday
3 live sessions + one open listening session
Works whether you've never opened Ableton or have folders of unfinished ideas
Personal feedback on your track
about the course
Start with something you want to say. Across 3 live classes, you’ll turn that idea into a complete song demo in Ableton Live — from your first loop to an arrangement with your own lyrics and voice, sung or spoken.
We’ll work through the process during the sessions. You can keep experimenting between classes at your own pace.
We’ll also provide a sample pack to help you get started without spending hours searching for sounds. Bring your own sounds if you prefer.
what you'll get
A complete song demo of your own, exported and ready to share
A method for starting from an idea instead of a blank project
The core logic of Ableton, without the technical overload
Personal feedback on your track — during the live group review or privately
who it's for
I've never made music and don't know where to start
You listen to music and think "I want to do that too." This course gives you a starting point and a process to follow
I have ideas but never finish them
Folders full of loops and voice memos? Learn how to develop one idea into a complete song demo, with a clear process and feedback
I write lyrics or sing, but get stuck with the software
Bring your words or vocal ideas and learn how to build an arrangement around them in Ableton Live
I already produce, but my tracks don't say what I want them to
The technical side stays simple. The focus is on using an idea to guide your choices — from the sounds you pick to the arrangement you build
I work in a creative field
Design, video, visuals — making music gives you another way to express an idea in your work.
I want to learn alongside other people
Join live sessions, exchange ideas in the course chat and learn from the group track review. Sharing your own track with the group is optional
module exchange
Module Exchange is an electronic music school. For over 7 years, we've helped people make music, find their sound and enjoy the creative process — without snobbery.

the loop
Start with one sentence about what you want to express. Get familiar with the Ableton basics you’ll use: the Browser, Session View, dragging in samples, tempo, volume and mute. Then combine drums, bass and chords into a loop, choosing sounds that fit your idea
Result: an 8-bar loop that gives your song a starting point

Thursday, 22 October · 20:00–21:20 (Paris time)
the song
Develop your loop into a full arrangement. Duplicate sections, add and remove layers, and hear how those changes create movement. Explore a verse, pre-chorus and chorus structure, and find where your main phrase or hook fits best.
Result: a song arrangement with a clear structure and a place for your voice

Tuesday, 27 October · 20:00–21:20 (Paris time)
the voice
Explore how lyrics and voice can become part of your track — whether sung or spoken. Learn the basics of recording with a microphone and audio interface, or simply use your phone. Add your recording to the arrangement and export your song demo.
Result: a complete demo with your own voice, ready to share

track review & Q&A
Misha will review selected student tracks with the group, share feedback and answer your questions about songwriting and production. Sharing your track in the live session is optional.
Prefer to keep yours private, or need more time to finish? Send it when it’s ready for individual feedback in writing or as a voice message.
Result: feedback on your work and clear ideas for what to develop next

what's next

f.a.q.
No. The intensive is built for people starting from scratch, or close to it. No musical education needed.
The technical floor is low on purpose. What isn't basic is finishing. If you have folders full of ideas you never closed, this is 2 weeks of structure and a deadline with people watching. Skip the parts you know, bring your own sounds instead of the pack, and use the room.
Enough to sing. We start from one sentence about what the track is about and build outward, so you're never facing a blank page. If you'd rather stay instrumental, the same method applies to a track with no words in it.
The pack includes vocal phrases you can use instead. And in session three we cover recording on a phone, which is more than enough for a demo.
No. It exists so nobody spends session one hunting for sounds. Use it, replace it, or ignore it entirely.
Recordings stay available for 3 months. But the format is live — that's the main difference between this and YouTube.
Yes, that's the whole point. By the end of session three you have an exported file. Not a release, not professional production — a real first track that says something.
YouTube gives you fragments, not a route. This gives you a sequence from an empty project to a finished track, and a person you can ask in the moment.
Yes — all sessions, all materials, all the chat.
